| 1939 | Glauber Pedro de Andrade Rocha is born in Vitória da Conquista, in Bahia, Brazil, the first child of Adamastor Bráulio Silva Rocha and Lúcia Mendes de Andrade Rocha. His father was a non-practiser catholic, but it was Mrs. Rocha, a presbyterian, who oriented her children's religious life. Glauber Rocha was baptized at the Presbyterian Church. His godparents were his mother and the pastor. |
| 1940 | On 27 August, his sister Ana Marcelina de Andrade Rocha is born.. |
| 1942 | On 26 October, his second sister Anecy de Andrade Rocha is born. |
| 1946 | At the age of seven, Rocha goes to school for the first time, a Catholic school in Vitória da Conquista. He had been taught to read and write by his mother. |
| 1947 | In August, the family moves to Salvador, the capital of the State of Bahia. "This happened because of my father's business.He was a tradesman before he became a railway and road constructor." |
| 1948 | In March, Rocha starts his studies at the presbyterian school called Dois de Julho, where he receives intense religious education and participates in the festivals and the school's choir. At the age of nine, he writes, in Spanish, the play 'El Hijito de Oro' and it gets staged at the school by his French teacher, Josué de Castro. Rocha plays the role of a Spanish prince, the main character of the play. |
| 1952 | Ana Marcelina dies of leukemia. In the
same year was born Ana Lucia - Glauber´s sister. At the age of thirteen, Rocha takes part in a radio program about cinema, called 'Cinema em Close-Up'. |
